Region Fundraiser Highlight: Japan Regions Collaborate to Host Fundraising Event for the Dream Big Campaign

On November 30, 2021, the five Japan regions hosted an event in celebration of Soroptimist’s 100th Anniversary to raise over $50,000 for the Dream Big Campaign!

The event, organized by the region Governors Toyoko Iue (Chuo), Fumiko Watanabe (Higashi), Mieko Shinohara (Kita), Junko Ayabe (Minami), and Tamiko Sasaki (Nishi), featured guest speaker journalist and professor Akira Ikegami. Ikegami, who has been supportive of the Dream It, Be It program in Japan, spoke about how to live in Japan and the world under the Covid-19 pandemic. He revealed the history of infectious diseases in the world, stories of impact, and his perspective on the role of Soroptimists after COVID-19 pandemic.

Nearly 3,000 Soroptimist members attended the lecture event, with registration fees totaling $51,372 being donated to the Dream Big Campaign. Dream Big Campaign Country Manager Madoka Ushio shared a word of thanks with attendees during the donation ceremony:

“We are grateful for your generous support of the Dream Big Campaign. It helps the mission of serving women and girls, and is valued for the future of our organization.”

In addition to Country Manager Madoka, Soroptimist leaders President Kazuko Morita; Past President Penny Babb; the five Japan Region Governors, and Executive Director and CEO Michelle Burnett all provided remarks as part of the program.
